If you knew every time you jumped in the car and went for a drive, your tires were at the correct pressure; then you could dispense with the gauge. Unfortunately, that&#8217;s impossible.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We&#8217;re confident you want your family to be safe when driving in the car. Likewise, you don&#8217;t want to spend money when you shouldn&#8217;t have to. When tires are underinflated, it takes more energy to turn the wheels, and that&#8217;s going to cost money. If the tires are overinflated, there&#8217;s a chance of a blowout, and not only is that costly, and time-consuming it can prove deadly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of today&#8217;s new cars have on-board systems that can measure tire pressures. But do you want just to accept that? They can be inaccurate and generally only measure severe drops in air pressure, which might be too late to prevent tire wear and extra dollars at the gas pump. For the cost of a tire pressure gauge, you can pop into the glove box and check your tires once a month. Isn\u2019t it worth the peace of mind?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Do I Know What My Tire Pressure Should Be?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you check down the side of the driver&#8217;s door jamb, you&#8217;ll undoubtedly see a sticker. Every vehicle should have one unless you have an old car; even if you have an old vehicle, take it to the tire fitting garage and get them to check all your tires and ask them to give you a new sticker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sticker will tell you the pressure for front and back in psi (pounds per square inch). Most modern cars have equal pressure front and back. The figures on the sticker are tire pressures when the tires are cold. You must remember that because the air inside tires heats up and expands when the tires are in motion and in contact with the road. So taking a pressure reading with hot tires will be inaccurate and do you no favors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you use nitrogen in your tires, you will need a different psi, so make sure the sticker reads for nitrogen and not air.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Types Of Tire Pressure Gauges<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are several types of tire pressure gauges. The old-fashioned gauges were like a small tube. You attached them to your tire&#8217;s valve, and the pressure pushed out a tube from inside the gauge. On it was lines of measurements. They were severely inaccurate and not easy to use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital gauges are the modern way to go. Quick and straightforward to use with dials that are backlit and super easy to read, even in the dark. Most if not all of them have a flashlight to see better when you\u2019re trying to find the tire&#8217;s valve. Once you&#8217;ve attached the nozzle, it takes only a few seconds to get a totally accurate readout.
