Chevrolet SONIC 2012 Sonic LTZ Sedan shown in Silver Ice Metallic and Sonic LTZ Hatchback shown in Inferno Orange Metallic (extra-cost color). Shown with available features. Be First. Dive in. Reach out. Look up. Dream. Do. Get something worth grinning about. Something fun to drive. Like the only available turbo in its class. Pile in. There’s room for more with sonic. Sonic LT Hatchback shown in Summit White with available dealer-installed body kit, graphics and other accessories.1 It earned these stripes When Lead Development Engineer John Buttermore gets behind the wheel of a Corvette, he’s bringing years of track experience into every curve and straightaway. So it came as no surprise that Buttermore would channel the same passion into developing the all-new Sonic. “Road racing has been a hobby for years, and our team expends a lot of effort tuning our Corvette to get the best performance. Working on Sonic is no different. You have a set of components and you do your best to maximize their performance.” As part of a group of engineers that drove cross-country to test the sedan and hatchback, Buttermore saw his share of challenges: “Whether it’s coming down or climbing those twisting mountain roads, Sonic was planted, secure. When you’re driving down roads with no guardrail on the side, it’s good to have a car that’s confident, responsive and just very rewarding to drive.” If Buttermore could describe Sonic in one word, it would be “fun.” “We have a lot of selling points on safety and fuel economy,2 which are sensible reasons to own a car, but at the end of the day, you spend a lot of time in your car. We want everyone to enjoy that time. And fun is the best way to describe that feeling.” It’s been a long road, but this is one launch Buttermore is really looking forward to. “What’s rewarding about doing this is seeing all the triumphs, all the effort that goes into developing a vehicle and then seeing it all come together. We were very confident that these cars would perform well and they did. But what’s more rewarding is seeing it in person. You come with high expectations and then you get to look at what the cars can do, and point and say, ‘We did that.’ There’s nothing like it.” 1 Shown with graphics from an independent supplier and is not covered by the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty. HEAD FOR HIGH GROUND WITH SONIC AND ADVANCED HILL Start ASSIST TECHNOLOGY It can be an anxious moment, especially with a manual transmission. You’ve stopped for a red light on an incline, and as the light changes, you slowly slide backward. Horns honk and suddenly you wish you lived in Kansas. Well, we’re here to help, my friend. Sonic has a nifty advanced technology feature called Hill Start Assist. How does it work? Basically, it helps by keeping the brakes engaged for a split second while the driver transitions from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. Once the accelerator pedal is depressed the brakes are automatically released. It’s designed to help prevent Sonic from rolling backward or forward on steep inclines or declines. After all, adventure always lies over the next hill. 1 EPA estimate with available 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission. 2 Go to gm.com /bluetooth to find out which phones are compatible with the vehicle. 3 Always use safety belts and child restraints. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate child restraints. See the Owner’s Manual for more information. Joaquin Nuño-Whelan Vehicle chief Engineer Vehicle Chief Engineer Joaquin Nuño-Whelan and his team took a no-compromise attitude throughout every phase of development and testing. The result? A ridiculously fun and sporty vehicle with 148 lb.-ft. of torque available—the most in its class. While driving Sonic cross-country to verify its performance, the team pushed it to extremes. Nuño-Whelan shares one such adventure. “We went up a severely steep road, a dirt road that had recently received a lot of rain. Neither of the two Sonics got stuck in the mud. At one point, there was a steep cliff on one side; on the other, we had a sheer rock wall. There was literally no room for error. It got a little hairy, but in the end, nothing was damaged. Sonic really impressed us. I have a really great feeling about this car.” “ Sonic took everything we threw at it—snow, ice, hills, mountains, dirt roads—and it shined.” chevy.com/accessories Get the look Sonic LTZ Hatchback shown in Silver Ice Metallic with available dealer-installed body kit and graphics.1 waves Be bold. That’s why we’ve equipped Sonic with numerous safety features. It’s even been named a 2011 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). From the moment you set out on the road, technologies like the STABILITRAK® ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM with TRACTION CONTROL are at the ready. On slippery surfaces, StabiliTrak helps you stay on course by detecting the difference between the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling. It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help you keep your Sonic on track. What’s more, FOUR-WHEEL ANTILOCK BRAKES help maintain control and stability during hard braking by preventing wheel lockup. And ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION on the front disc and rear drum brakes has panic assist to help optimize stopping power. Other advancements you can count on— including DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS and a TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM 1—are just a few of the ways we help you avoid trouble on the road. During Sometimes, however, trouble finds you. And if a moderate to severe collision does happen, Sonic is designed to respond quickly as the first car in its class with 10 STANDARD AIR BAGS .2 Sensors throughout the vehicle determine how many air bags deploy—including knee air bags for the driver and front passenger. Adding to this protection, the cabin is reinforced with HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL throughout. Meanwhile, front and rear “crush zones” are designed to compress in a controlled manner, helping absorb and channel energy away from the cabin. But our protective measures don’t end there. AFTER Should a collision occur, crucial information can be instantly relayed to the OnStar® command center via ONSTAR AUTOMATIC CRASH RESPONSE .3 There, trained OnStar Advisors utilize GPS technology to pinpoint your exact location and can request that assistance be sent right away—even if you’re unable to respond. It’s part of ONSTAR DIRECTIONS & CONNECTIONS ® 3 which is standard for six months, because nothing is more important than your safety. 1 Excludes spare tire. 2 Air bag inf lation can cause severe injury or death to anyone too close to the air bag when it deploys. Be sure every occupant is properly restrained. 3 Visit onstar.com for details and system limitations. Services vary by model and conditions. There is no standard jack or spare tire in the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LT Sedan with 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Your vehicle has a tire sealant and compressor kit that uses a liquid tire sealant to temporarily seal up to a one-quarter-inch puncture in the tread area of the tire. After using the tire inflator kit, it is recommended that you take the tire to an authorized retailer for inspection and repair as soon as possible, but at least within 100 miles of driving. The tire sealant cannot seal and inflate sidewall damage, punctures larger than one-quarter inch, or a tire that has unseated from the wheel. The sealant can only be used on one tire and for one time before its expiration date. FLEET ORDERS. Some standard content may be deleted on fleet orders. See dealer for details. Owner Services.
