The AEM Short Ram Air Intake System is the result of extensive development on a wide variety of cars. It is the most advanced short pipe air intake system on the market. Each system is specifically engineered for its application. All AEM Short Ram Air Intake Systems deliver maximum performance gains through lightweight, all-aluminum, mandrel-bent tubing that is tuned in both length and diameter. The aluminum will not crack in extended use like plastic. The tube length and diameter are matched for each specific engine to give power over a broad RPM range. Unlike plastic systems that use a continually diverging cross-section, we take advantage of the acoustical energy in the inlet duct to promote cylinder filling during the intake valve-opening event. Every intake is coated with a high-gloss, heat-reducing Zirconia based powder coating. This special blend of powder coating helps reduce heat penetration, which in turn reduces the temperature of the inlet air charge. The cooler inlet air temperature translates to more power during the combustion process because cool air is denser than warm air. The filter element has also been extensively developed. An integral part of all our filter elements is a built-in velocity stack. This velocity stack is specifically engineered to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the intake system. We have seen airflow gains on a flow bench of 12-15% by using this velocity stack. The air mass flow to the engine is increased because of the increased airflow and reduced inlet temperature, which translates to more power. Set parking brake. Disconnect negative battery terminal. If engine has run with in the past two hours let it cool down. 2) Removal of the stock intake system. Mounting Bolts a. Stock system installed in vehicle. b. Remove the two mounting bolts securing the upper engine cover. Remove the engine cover. Hose Clamp Wiring Harness c. Remove the wiring harness from the rubber holds in the stock upper intake tube. d. Remove the hose clamp securing the stock upper intake tube to the throttle body. Inlet Air Temp Sensor Wiring Harness Spring Clamp e. Remove the wiring harness from the rubber holds in the stock upper intake tube. Disconnect the inlet air temp sensor wiring harness. Loosen the spring clamp securing the inlet air temp sensor and remove. Set the inlet air temp sensor aside as it will be reinstalled on the AEM intake system. Mounting Bolt Thermo Valve Hose Hose Clamp f. Remove the hose clamp securing the stock upper intake tube to the filter box. Remove the thermo valve hose. Remove the stock upper intake tube from the vehicle. Mounting Nut Rubber Plug Spring Clamp & Crankcase Breather Tube g. Loosen the spring clamp securing the crank case breather tube and remove from the filter box. Remove the mounting bolt securing the filter box. Remove the mounting nut securing the filter box. h. Remove the rubber plug from the filter box. Mounting Bolt Lower Intake Tube i. Remove the mounting bolt securing the filter box. j. Disconnect the lower intake tube from the air filter box. Remove the air filter box. Mounting Nuts k. Remove the two mounting nuts securing the lower intake tube to the chassis. Remove the lower intake tube. l. Stock intake removed from vehicle. 3) Installation of the AEM Cold Air Intake System. a) When installing the Cold Air Intake System, DO NOT completely tighten the hose clamps or mounting tab hardware until instructed to do so later in these instructions. Rubber Grommet and Inlet Air Temp Sensor b. Install the supplied rubber grommet in the intake pipe. Install the inlet air temp sensor. Aluminum Spacer c. Install the aluminum spacer over the exposed stud from removing the stock filter box. Thermo Valve Hose Connector Hose and Hose Clamps d. Install the supplied connector hose onto the throttle body and the intake pipe. Install the two supplied hose clamps on the connector hose. Inlet Air Temp Sensor and Wiring Harness e. Install the thermo valve hose on the intake pipe. Plug in the inlet air temp sensor wiring harness. Crankcase Breather Tube f. Install the crankcase breather tube on the intake pipe and secure it with the stock spring clamp. h. Install the AEM filter on to the end of the intake pipe. Install the supplied hose clamp to secure the filter on to the intake pipe. g. Install the intake pipe over the aluminum spacer. Use the supplied nyloc nut and washer to secure the intake pipe. i. View of the AEM intake system installed on vehicle. j. k. Position the intake pipe for best fitment. Be sure that the pipes or any other components do not contact any part of the vehicle. Tighten the hose clamps. Check for proper hood clearance. Re-adjust pipes if necessary. Check for Clearance 4) Final Inspection. a) Inspect the engine bay for any loose tools and check that all fasteners that were moved or removed are properly tight. b) Start the engine and perform a final inspection before driving the vehicle.
