TOYOTA PRADO. PREPARE FOR ANYTHING. prado.com.au Getting the job done. The story of Toyota Commercial Vehicles. Getting the job done. That’s been our motto for more than half a century. No matter the terrain, no matter the weather, no matter the load, our engineers’ pursuit of perfection will ensure we meet our mantra. At Toyota, we know that every job matters and we know that the quality, durability and reliability we promise is crucial. There through thick and thin. We’ve done it tough since day one. Back in 1958, on the slopes of the Snowies, our very first LandCruiser was used as a tool for thousands of Snowy Mountain Hydro Scheme workers. It got them to their worksite, and home again, every day. Their back-breaking work on unforgiving and unpredictable land was shouldered by this unbreakable workhorse. No wonder it’s known as the 4WD that built Australia. Now, more than 50 years on, we’re still at work building the nation. Our commercial fleet is still getting the job done everywhere and more Australians rely on us than ever before. From cattle drovers to camel catchers, boaties to brickies, our quality, durability and reliability is expected and we strive to deliver it through what we call ‘Kaizen’; constant and continual improvement. Work hard, work smart. Practicality and durability, that’s our pedigree but these days our commercial vehicles are as renowned as much for their intelligence as for their rugged exterior. Pop the hood or search the cab and you’ll find our engineers have advanced the range with some ground-breaking achievements, like the KDSS suspension control that keeps the car steady on the shakiest of surfaces, or the state-of-the-art CRAWL system that keeps a firm grip on the toughest terrain. You’re also likely to experience more comfort features than ever before. Depending on the model you choose to get your job done, you’ll have iPod®(1) and Bluetooth™(2) connectivity, flexible, easyfold seating configurations and the safety of SRS airbags – just an example of our restlessness for betterment. We’re committed to being a company with world values at heart. As such, the benefits of our pursuits go well beyond the driver when we develop vehicles which work for longer on less. New, fuel-efficient engines, give the same grunt you’ve come to expect, but more economically and more quietly than ever. So whether putting out fires in the big smoke, or putting in hard yards out bush, the only thing our vehicles aren’t producing more of is emissions. And still there’s work to be done. We boast the toughest, strongest and smartest work vehicles ever made, because we’ve been there before. We’ve spent the last fifty years working to bring you the best vehicles to tackle the toughest terrain on Earth, and we’ll continue to evolve and strive to make each Toyota better than the last. (1) iPod® is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. (2) The Bluetooth word mark is owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. Bluetooth™ will only operate with telephones enabled with compatible Bluetooth™ wireless technology (HFP (Hands Free Profile) v1.0 or later and OPP (Object Push Profile) v1.1 or later international standards). OPP functionality only works on satellite navigation equipment. GO ANYWHERE IN STYLE. These days, every day is an off-road adventure. Even a trip to pick up the kids can sometimes be as treacherous as taking on a mountain pass. And long road trips can turn out to be as demanding as slippery dirt tracks. At Toyota, we’ve spent more than 50 years researching, testing, building and improving 4WDs and never in all that time have the demands of the on-road driver so closely matched those who want to explore the wild country. Both want greater control in tough conditions. Both desire outstanding levels of power and towing strength and both want to get there safely and comfortably, every time. Perhaps that’s why the All New Prado has been so eagerly anticipated, technologically advanced and designed from the ground up to give you the best of both worlds. BACK, TO THE FUTURE. The latest progeny of the great LandCruiser that first came to Australia in 1958 to help build the Snowy-Hydro system, the All New Prado still adheres to those same robust traditions of hard work and stalwart performance. But it also knows the importance of style. Of grace and poise. And breathtakingly bold looks. As well as an elegant, muscular new shape, we’ve given the new Prado an unprecedented array of intelligent technologies – to help make driving more exhilarating, more comfortable and more safe. It is truly the most advanced Prado we have ever built. This is the Prado that can take you anywhere in style and make every journey a destination in itself. prado.com.au Front Cover: Kakadu model shown. VX model shown. WHERE BEAUTY MEETS THE BEAST. QUIETLY SHAPING THE WORLD. For all its wide-stance stature and dynamic presence, the All New Prado is no mere show pony. Everything about the design and shape has been painstakingly considered. Designed from the robust foundations of a beautifully integrated solid mass, the All New Prado’s statuesque presence speaks for itself. This is an authentic icon – the real deal when it comes to the next generation of 4WDs. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX. Exterior highlights were all reconsidered, redesigned and refined to add to the All New Prado’s unified appearance. Mirror-integrated LED indicators, discreet rain-sensing wipers(1), seamless aerodynamic aids, rear spoiler and even the LED rear brake lamps express meticulous attention-to-detail. The front aero Downhill for Assist Control help control airflow for spat spoilers, example, (VX andfuel Kakadu models–only). enhanced economy but can easily be removed by hand if needed for rugged terrain. Even the side front and rear aero spats play a role – by reducing the drag co-efficient to an impressive 0.35 rating. If you think it is just great to look at, wait until you drive it. (1) Standard on VX, Kakadu and ZR models only. POWERFUL PRESENCE. It's underneath this rugged exterior that the true presence of the All New Prado can be felt. The petrol engine is a powerhouse. A big V6 with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), it can pump out an impressive 202kW when the going gets tough and pull like a mule thanks to 381Nm of torque. But expect to be oblivious to the hard work going on beneath you, as the responsive engine is also quiet, fuel efficient and environmentally respectful. ABSOLUTE POWER. ABSOLUTELY QUIET. The 3.0 litre turbo diesel is just as impressive as its petrol brother. Producing 127kW of smooth, directinjected diesel power and a huge 410Nm of torque, you’ll have the grunt to take on the muddiest trails and get out of the stickiest situations. Yet this engine has remarkable finesse and efficiency too, with 8.8L/100km(1) (or around 1900km per tank) for the manual transmission. GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE. How you engage that power – well that’s a matter of choice. You may prefer the ease of the intelligent 5-speed automatic. Now with multi-mode transmission, you can have all the comfort of an auto, with the option of manual whenever you like – just select ‘S’ on the selector gate. But if you prefer a greater sense of hands-on control, the 6-speed manual transmission is the only choice for you. On paper, it all adds up to impressive power and control. Out there in the real world, it simply has to be experienced to be believed. (1) Fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions/style, vehicle conditions and options/accessories. With KDSS Luxury. When you work as hard as you do, a little bit of luxury can come as a welcome reward. Nowadays the ultimate luxury is freedom. Freedom to leave the everyday behind for a while. Freedom to go wherever, whenever, on an impulse and know that wherever you go, your 4WD can handle it. Without KDSS The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) provides robust traction, minimising body-roll both on-road and off, particularly when cornering. KDSS provides greater traction on off-road terrain through improved wheel articulation. The All New Prado gives you that freedom through unsurpassed technology. By being the most advanced Prado ever, you don’t have to be the greatest 4WDriver to get where you want to go. We call this intelligence Driver Assist Technology - DAT. It’s not just one thing, but several, all working together seamlessly to give you greater control and a better driving experience, whatever the terrain and whatever the challenge. Whether you’re off the beaten track or just on the route to work, control is everything. That’s why every new Prado has a constant four wheel drive system that allows each wheel the intelligence to know when it’s losing traction and allow the others to take over. Our Torsen-type Limited Slip Differential controls the distribution of the pulling power, so you get more torque on the wheels that need it most. Prado VX and Kakadu models also feature the state-of-the-art Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). This highly advanced system features front and rear stabiliser bars that reduce the roll and tilt in tight corners and absorb minor bumps and inconsistencies for a smooth drive on the road. Get off-road and KDSS really shines, giving you an increased wheel articulation that keeps you stable when it gets really bumpy and uneven – so you can venture almost anywhere, comfortably. KDSS uses hydraulic cylinders to increase wheel articulation over rough terrain and accumulators to increase ride smoothness over uneven surfaces. All work together to ensure that passengers enjoy a smoother ride in the cabin regardless of what is going on outside. TAKE ON THE OFF-ROAD. Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) Downhill Assist Control (DAC) HAC and DAC make steep terrain safer than ever. There’s no better way to leave everyday cares behind than to get off the bitumen for a while. Getting out bush, with its everchanging terrain and unexpected challenges, is driving at its most exhilarating and most liberating. Now, with the Prado’s new off-road innovations, nowhere is out of bounds. Choose the ZR or Kakadu off-road pack and new CRAWL Control technology will come standard. First seen on the LandCruiser 200, it’s like an off-road cruise control, helping you tackle steep and slippery terrain with ease. Whether you’re about to go up or down a steep slope, driving over rocks, through streams or trying to get out of a bog, you can now take your foot off the pedals and simply CRAWL your way through in one of the 5 available speed settings. All you have to do is push a button and steer. HOLD ANY POSITION. THE UP-SIDE OF DOWNHILLS. Such advanced technology is useful everywhere. Take Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) for example. Whether you’re on a muddy trail high up in the Snowies, or just stopped at the lights high on an incline, it’s all too easy to roll backwards between the time you take your foot from the brake to the accelerator. But with HAC, (on automatic models only), your new Prado won’t move anywhere until you tell it to. The system applies the brakes briefly to stop any backward movement for approximately 5 seconds. This allows you to smoothly take off from anywhere, and avoid backward steps. But of course, slippery slopes aren’t only a challenge to scale, they also take some work getting back down. You only have to go a tad fast or be a bit quick on the brakes and suddenly you’re skidding and getting out of shape. But not in your Prado. Downhill Assist Control (DAC)(1) (available on automatic models) automatically controls the brakes, so that you’ll take the descent at an even 5-7km/h speed safely, with each wheel braking individually. And you’ll do it just as well going backwards as you will forwards. (1) DAC technology is incorporated in the CRAWL function on Kakadu and ZR off-road pack models. Kakadu model shown PERFECT TRACTION. ON ANY TRACK. Off-road driving is all about making little adjustments. Every surface has a different level of traction, that means braking more gently in some places, going more slowly in others and constantly managing the brake force to make sure you don’t slip. But now, with the innovation of Multi-Terrain Select(1) (MTS) on board you can forge through challenging off-road scenarios with confidence. MUD & SAND MOGUL LOOSE ROCK ROCK MTS is the latest evolution of our Active-Traction Control (A-TRC) system. It works by allowing you to select a particular traction control for the conditions you’re in. Working hand-in-hand with Multi-terrain ABS, to minimise the chance of wheel lock-up, MTS gives you the option of selecting mud, rocks, sand or moguls right from the steering wheel. The system then adapts to better suit your selected conditions. ADVANCED 4-WHEEL INDEPENDENT CONTROL While all of this sounds simple, the incredibly advanced MTS system helps the All New Prado maintain forward momentum when driving in most off-road situations. This will help to minimise the chances of becoming stuck in mud or soft sand, failing to take a steep ascent that has loose rock or simply losing control or becoming lodged when crossing moguls or rocks. This Toyota first technology provides you the opportunity to conquer more of the off-road than you ever have thought possible before. SEE WHAT YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. Blind spots. Cresting a hill. Hidden dangers. They’re all about to be things of the past. The All New Prado gives you a greater field of vision than you’ve ever experienced before. The ZR and Kakadu models come with Multi-Terrain Monitor (1,2) – which provides 6 viewing angles through 4 cameras – in front, behind and to each side of the vehicle front and rear. Your surroundings are then displayed on the Electro Multi-Vision (EMV) screen(3). Switching camera views is as easy as pushing a button on the steering wheel. CAMERA RANGE MULTI-TERRAIN MONITOR Camera view & steering angle display And with the intelligent addition of steering angle and predicted tyre path displays right there on the Multi-Information Display (MID) & EMV screen(3), you can always see where your tyres are pointing – this will ensure you know which direction you are taking off in before you hit the accelerator. The technology, while great for off-road situations, is also practical for many everyday uses. Many other systems offer only a rear view of the vehicle, however not all bumps and bruises occur at the back of your 4WD. Parking your Prado, both reverse and parallel, or traversing any tight area is now easier than ever. MULTI-TERRAIN MONITOR Front view All of this combines to ensure that no matter whether you're negotiating a steep terrain or a treacherous driveway, tight driving trails or just a tight parking spot, you'll always know where you are, where you're pointing and just how much clearance you have. (1) Standard on ZR and Kakadu off-road pack only. Features removed when selecting the optional Cruise Pack. (2) The front, side and rear cameras do not provide a comprehensive view of the area surrounding the vehicle and should only be used as an aid for viewing when parking/driving. (3) EMV screen standard on Kakadu and ZR models only. THE INSIDE STORY. The Prado doesn’t just show its grace on the outside. Smart Entry and Start, now a feature across the range, allows the vehicle to be locked or unlocked simply by carrying the key. Thanks to built-in antennae and touch sensors, your keys only need to be in your pocket or bag, putting an end to fumbling forever. This same principle is used for Smart Start, meaning you simply push the brake and the start button to start. FLYING IN FIRST CLASS. The All New Prado has everyone sitting comfortably in first class seating. Life being what it is, we’ve engineered the seating to work in a wide variety of configurations; from 2 to 7 people(2), with lots of room for everything from luggage and shopping to ski gear and mountain bikes. Models featuring a 3rd row can have this row fold flat while the second row folds near flat also. With two 12V DC outlets on the centre console and a 220V AC outlet in the luggage compartment, you’re powered to go anywhere – literally. But it’s the room for life’s little luxuries that really make the interior special. A TOUCH OF LUXURY. From the moment your hands grip the beautifully finished premium steering wheel, the Prado’s design sensibility really comes alive. Flick the multi-information switch (Kakadu and ZR) and you’re able to perform no less than 16 user-customised operations without even taking your hands from the wheel. If you like the sound of that, just wait until you hear the quality of the Prado’s audio system. SOUNDS LIKE PEACE AND QUIET. With a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 14 speakers (depending on model), the Prado sounds as good as it looks. Breathtaking audio quality from CD, radio, USB or your iPod®(1) flows crystal clear throughout the driver and passenger areas. Add to this the Rear Seat Entertainment 9" monitor with DVD capability on the Kakadu grade and you have a truly world-class entertainment system – to go. But if it’s the sound of silence you’re after, you’ll be pleased to know that it also includes three wireless headphones with individual input. (1) iPod® is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. (2) GX, SX and ZR models have maximum 5 seat capacity. Kakadu model shown. PREPARE FOR ANYTHING. Going where no one’s gone before. It’s at the heart of everything we’ve done in designing the All New Prado, because we know it’s at the heart of everything you’ll do when you drive it. Never has this been more apparent than in what we’ve done to try to ensure you and your passengers are always safe – no matter how adventurous you get. GET THE JUMP ON ACCIDENTS. Of course, the most important part of accident safety is not to have the accident in the first place. We’ve put nine years of work into improving the Prado’s active safety technology and integrating it into all Prado models, so you’ll now find innovations everywhere. Innovations like Traction Control, that prevents wheel spin on slippery surfaces. Vehicle Stability Control, that helps you hold a line through a corner, overcoming understeer and oversteer by automatically adjusting the engine output and braking force going to each wheel. Plus Radar Cruise Control(1,4) ensures you’re never too close to the vehicle in front when you’re on cruise control, by automatically slowing to the speed of the vehicle in front when you get within a pre-set distance – then returning back to the pre-set speed once it detects the road ahead has cleared. SYSTEMATIC SAFETY. Pre-Collision Safety System(1,4) works as part of a seamless system – proactively taking measures to help you avoid accidents. When it senses a crash is imminent, you’ll be alerted with a warning buzzer and display. Then, the moment you start braking, Brake Assist will be deployed to give you even more brake force. If you don’t get on the brakes the Pre-Collision Safety System will automatically apply the brakes and retract the seatbelts to reduce the chance of injury in the collision. SOME PEOPLE GET ALL THE BRAKES. Of course, we’ve paid particular attention to braking. You’ll now find Anti-lock Braking with Intelligence comes standard on all models, as well as Electronic Brake-force Distribution, that puts more braking force on the wheels that need it most, depending on the conditions and the load you’re carrying. If you do get into an emergency braking situation, the Prado will sense it by how quickly you hit the brakes and automatically give you even more braking force. ANYTHING-BUT-PASSIVE SAFETY. Accidents do happen. So we’ve spent just as much time and effort creating one of the most comprehensive ‘passive safety’ systems in the world. It starts with our exclusive ‘Safe-TCell’ that’s not only incredibly strong, but also absorbent, taking the impact and protecting the occupants, whether the force comes from the front, back or even the sides. All models of the Prado are equipped with a very impressive seven SRS airbags, shielding your passengers from impact, from every direction. Both front seats are protected from front-on impact including protection from a knee airbag for the driver. Curtain shield airbags cover all rows of seats within the vehicle, protecting everyone from side impact. CRUISE PACK The Cruise pack is an option for Kakadu and ZR models which includes the Wide View Front & Left Side Monitor, Pre-Collision Safety System and Radar Cruise Control features. PRE-COLLISION SAFETY SYSTEM(1) The Pre-Collision Safety System(1) detects obstacles ahead and provides an audible warning when there is a possibility of collision. When there is a high possibility, the system activates Brake Assist to provide increased braking force when the driver reacts. When a collision becomes inevitable, Pre-Collision will activate the brakes and retract the seatbelts to help reduce the injury to passengers. RADAR CRUISE CONTROL(1) Even the seatbelts are advanced, with the front seats featuring pre-tensioners with force limiters – taking up any slack as an accident occurs to minimise movement. And in the back, all seats are fitted with Emergency Locking Retractor 3-point seatbelts to help keep everyone securely in place. 1. While on cruise control, millimetre-wave radar constantly confirms no obstacles are in the path of the vehicle. 2. Should the Prado approach a slower vehicle in front, the Radar Cruise Control System will reduce the Prado's speed to prevent a collision. 3. The system will maintain a constant distance from the vehicle in front based on your choice of three distance settings. 4. Once the path is clear the Radar Cruise Control System will accelerate back to the predetermined speed setting. PARKING’S A WALK IN THE PARK TOO. The All New Prado also ensures you can take any parking spot with confidence. Depending on the model there is the availability of both aural and visual warning to let you know when you're getting too close to an obstacle. This warning comes firstly from the ParkAssist(3) – reverse parking sensors on the GXL and SX, which provide feedback to the rear of the vehicle, while the addition of clearance parking sensors on the front cover you further in the VX, Kakadu and ZR. The visual warning comes from the Rear View Camera(2,3), which helps you see where you’re reversing into. Watch on the 4.2" TFT colour Multi-Information Display(6) or EMV(5) and let the Back Guide Monitor(5) guide you effortlessly into the spot. You have never had more help parking your Prado. (1) Available on the Kakadu and ZR optional Cruise pack only. (2) Rear View Camera standard on GXL, VX and Kakadu as well as 3 door models. (3) Rear View Camera and ParkAssist are designed as driver assist devices only and should not be used as a substitute for skilled driving and safe parking practices. The area into which the vehicle is to be reversed/parked must be visually monitored by the driver while parking. (4) Radar Cruise Control and Pre-Collision Safety System are driver assist technologies and should not be used in place of safe driving practices. Driver should continue to monitor road ahead. Technical terms. ACTIVE BRAKING WITH INTELLIGENCE (AB-i) ACTIVE-TRACTION CONTROL (A-TRC) Active Braking with intelligence is a braking package made up of Anti-skid Braking A-TRC controls the distribution of torque to each wheel to prevent tyres System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). from idle running and make sure the car moves forward. Brake pressure is electronically controlled at each wheel to suppress wheelspin and maintain ANTI-SKID BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) optimum traction, so drive force is optimally distributed to all 4 wheels. ABS allows the driver to continue to steer around an obstacle under emergency When a car starts on a slippery surface, sensors detect if any wheels are braking. It prevents the wheels from skidding by rapidly ‘pulsing’ each brake losing traction and A-TRC reduces the torque to them, increases the torque independently, helping the driver retain control of steering whilst minimising to tyres with traction, by up to 70%, so the car can move forward smoothly. the stopping distance. CRAWL BRAKE ASSIST (BA) The CRAWL Control System is best described as ‘off-road Cruise Control’. Designed to assist the driver in emergency braking situations, BA interprets a quick On muddy or rocky surfaces this system automatically manages both the hard push of the brake pedal as emergency braking and supplements the braking throttle and brakes, maintaining a constant low speed and freeing the driver power so that the car slows more rapidly. to concentrate on steering through what’s ahead. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGY (DAT) MULTI-TERRAIN ANTI-SKID BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) DAT is the collective term for Toyota’s active safety technologies such as VSC, The Multi-Terrain ABS senses its terrain, whether it is on ice, dirt or in mud, TRC and AB-i.
