Best Digital Tire Pressure Gauge

Thousands of vehicle crashes occur every year because of tire failures. Over or under-inflated tires directly lead to many of these tire failures. So it has to make sense to regularly check the pressure in your tires with a digital tire pressure gauge? And yet, those kinds of accident figures tell a very different story.

Poorly inflated tires being the cause of so many accidents is only half the story; disastrous as that is, the other half is the waste of money. Having the correct tire pressures will save on fuel bills and help extend the life of your tires. With the ever-increasing costs of things these days, the average driver needs to make savings wherever he or she can.

Having your own tire pressure gauge makes sense on so many levels. Who wants to stop at a gas station and pay to use a less than accurate tire gauge and most times have to line up for the privilege.

Buying your own digital tire pressure gauge is the sensible way to go, which is why we have searched out the best digital tire pressure gauge for you, and on your behalf, we have made a list of them here in this buying guide.

Why Is A Tire Pressure Gauge Necessary?

The issue is not that you need a tire pressure gauge; you need correctly inflated tires. If you knew every time you jumped in the car and went for a drive, your tires were at the correct pressure; then you could dispense with the gauge. Unfortunately, that’s impossible.

We’re confident you want your family to be safe when driving in the car. Likewise, you don’t want to spend money when you shouldn’t have to. When tires are underinflated, it takes more energy to turn the wheels, and that’s going to cost money. If the tires are overinflated, there’s a chance of a blowout, and not only is that costly, and time-consuming it can prove deadly.

Most of today’s new cars have on-board systems that can measure tire pressures. But do you want just to accept that? They can be inaccurate and generally only measure severe drops in air pressure, which might be too late to prevent tire wear and extra dollars at the gas pump. For the cost of a tire pressure gauge, you can pop into the glove box and check your tires once a month. Isn’t it worth the peace of mind?

How Do I Know What My Tire Pressure Should Be?

If you check down the side of the driver’s door jamb, you’ll undoubtedly see a sticker. Every vehicle should have one unless you have an old car; even if you have an old vehicle, take it to the tire fitting garage and get them to check all your tires and ask them to give you a new sticker.

The sticker will tell you the pressure for front and back in psi (pounds per square inch). Most modern cars have equal pressure front and back. The figures on the sticker are tire pressures when the tires are cold. You must remember that because the air inside tires heats up and expands when the tires are in motion and in contact with the road. So taking a pressure reading with hot tires will be inaccurate and do you no favors.

If you use nitrogen in your tires, you will need a different psi, so make sure the sticker reads for nitrogen and not air.

Types Of Tire Pressure Gauges

There are several types of tire pressure gauges. The old-fashioned gauges were like a small tube. You attached them to your tire’s valve, and the pressure pushed out a tube from inside the gauge. On it was lines of measurements. They were severely inaccurate and not easy to use.

Digital gauges are the modern way to go. Quick and straightforward to use with dials that are backlit and super easy to read, even in the dark. Most if not all of them have a flashlight to see better when you’re trying to find the tire’s valve. Once you’ve attached the nozzle, it takes only a few seconds to get a totally accurate readout. They need batteries to run, but that’s a small price to pay for the ease and speed of use modern the best tire pressure gauges offer.
